Here we are again! June has officially started, I'm closer to being a year older, summer is beginning soon and life is moving along as quickly as ever. When I was thinking of what I wanted to start this month with, I was going back and forth between an idea that I had come up with for May, but never got around to finishing. It's an interesting theme and one that I've not talked about before on Mostly Lisa. Since I really enjoy talking about trends and how they relate to each season, finding ways to talk about this one has kind-of put me into a loop. The idea was how to incorporate maximalism into a post about fashion, even though it's mostly used in the artwork world. Then I instantly thought, "well, isn't fashion art?" and so here we are today.  Maximalism is defined as, "a reaction against minimalism,  an aesthetic of excess and redundancy. The philosophy can be summarized as “more is more”, contrasting with the minimalist motto "less is more".

I am definitely not someone who thinks about more is more when it comes to fashion, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and think about ways that I could be that person. Getting inspiration from Dries Van NotenGucci and Jackson Pollock really helped get the creative juices flowing, and I've slowly realized that when it's done right, this aesthetic can be really beautiful. I've also noticed that maximalism has been taking over the runway lately, starting just a few seasons ago. Designers are being bold when it comes to mixing patterns, creating layers of different fabrics to cohesively serve one another and unexpected colors are getting mixed together. When I found the inspiration from Gucci, it was like the heavens opened! For real though, go check out their Spring 2016 RTW collection for all your maximalism needs. Enjoy my take on what this trend means for me, and shop all the links below!

Ah, the Holiday Gift Guides are finished. Now it's time to take the ideas I rounded up and bring them to action, I just hope that I can get everything I need in order for this holiday season to be extra magical. That magic brings me to what I am talking about in today's post! The gold trend has been around forever, and I noticed it was very present for fall and is now transitioning into winter. I do enjoy a great gold trend, as it can be easy to coordinate with anything and really makes you stand out. Gold is also very synonymous with the Holidays, and so I am going to give you some great inspiration on decorating your house/outfit/makeup/etc. during this time! I have also rounded up a cute outfit that I would wear in an instant to a Holiday party or get together. If I ever got invited to one, of course. Happy Tuesday!

Well, well, well! Hello everyone! Long time, no blogging! I have literally had no motivation to want to come on BlogSpot and update with anything. The weather here in Minnesota has made me feel so down and not like myself during these past couple months. This past weekend it FINALLY hit 70 degrees, but guess where we are now on the first of May?! Yeah, not higher but all the way back down to a good ol' 39 degrees. What the heck?! It's supposed to be a mix of rain and snow for the rest of this week. I'm so over this place.

But on the plus side, it gave me some inspiration to pick out some of my favorite rainwear that would lift my spirits a little. There's something special about a rain shower, just forget that snowfall, and it makes everything fresh and want to grow again. I can handle the rain if I had these few items in my wardrobe. I'm in love with the Hunter Original Rain Boots! With a luck of fate I actually WON some by entering a contest on their Facebook page. They are amazing and so comfortable. I can't wait to wear them out and about, because I am sure there will be tons of opportunities.

So tell me readers, what's the weather like where you are? If you have nice weather, I don't hate you but I am very happy for you! If you're in a place like where I am, LET'S GIVE EACHOTHER A HUG!

This past weekend was one of the laziest I've ever had. I'm not complaining about this though, I had two on-calls for work and for both I was cut, which in turn made me feel completely lazy. The weather outside is not helping as it is, SNOWING IN APRIL and there is no chance of it ending! So what is more perfect than staying inside and lounging around the house in your favorite pair of pajamas?! My favorite pair of PJs include black sweats, a comfy t-shirt with extra room, and a pair of super soft socks. But after seeing several street style photos of women wearing pajamas as their outfit at Fashion Week, I'm rethinking what I should actually wear to bed.

Stylist Caroline Sieber was seen at the Paris Fashion Week out in public wearing this gorgeous blue pajama set that I'm sure was extremely luxurious!  Now I though, "why can't I have something like that just to wear in bed?" So I set out looking on different websites for some great deals on PJ sets and was not disappointed. These are just some of my favorites, and I am going to be saving up for the J.Crew sets the most.

What do you think about the Pajama trend for everyday wear? Would you incorporate silk pajamas in your outfits? Let me know!

Always,
Mostly Lisa

Hey all! Hope your week has been going great. I've been busy with school and working, still fighting those winter blues but hoping to get out of the funk soon. One thing that has been helping is the magic of black and white. I know, I know, it's really a no brainer. These colors have gone together since the beginning of time and it really never goes out of style. This Spring though will have a little more clarity with stark contrasts of graphics and patterns. Inspiration from the 1950s and 60s bring looks full circle.

Have a great day!

One of fall’s several guilty pleasures is buying new shoes. While a woman can never have too many, there are only a few basics you'll need for this year. The first one is a loafer or flat, these easy and comfortable shoes are a must have for any wardrobe. You can have classic black loafers, or to add some drama, you can find ones that have studs. These trends that will stay in style and will not break your wallet. Another practical one is the boot,  whose length falls right under the knee. Be on the look out for styles loaded with embellishments. You can wear boots with skirts, skinny jeans, or comfy shorts. There is also nothing wrong with some sexy ankle boots/booties to show off your legs, or to wear underneath jeans or pants. These can be anything you want them to be. Classy, sexy, modern, 60s, etc. Since weekends in the fall are for shopping, you want to also make sure you have comfy, athletic shoes as well. So make sure to pick up some sneakers or walking shoes. These must haves can be fashionable too!
  1. Over the shoulders

Noticed this a lot during every Fashion Week, but almost every person who was photographed had some type of coat or jacket draped over their shoulders. It’s a simple, yet chic accessory to have. It’s such a simplistic touch to an outfit, but damn these women look good.

2. Cropped pants

While cropped pants have always been in style, we have Audrey Hepburn to praise for that, but I’ve noticed it’s gotten pretty huge this year. They slim down legs, they look great with pretty much any type of shoe, and they will never got out of style! What’s not to love?

3. Loafers

Not just for men anymore! These stylish shoes have been popping up everywhere, and I have no problem with that. I’ve seen it a lot with street style photographs, so it’s slowly getting into the mainstream. Noticed a lot of retailers have started selling them also, calling them loafers or ‘slippers’! There are different colors, patterns, some even have tassles! I highly recommend adding these to your wardrobe.

4. Braided hair
Braided hair has definitely come a long way from just the basic french braid, to something I could never have even imagined someone could do on their own. Obviously celebrities, who have brought these hairstyles to red carpet events, have hair stylists to help them out but everyone else has to fend for themseleves. Google and YouTube are our friends, ladies!

5. Neon

Now, I know this word can cause alarm, but let’s take a breath and realize what we can do with this trend nowadays. From fashion, to accessories, and even nail polish! There are tons of ways to add this pop of color to your wardrobe, and you don’t even have to go crazy with it! A little can go a long way with neon, so be careful and not go overboard.

6. Floral and geometric patterns

Since this MSGM collection is from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection, I’m guessing these two bold prints are going to be around for awhile.

Spring 2012 Trends

We all get sick of those Winter blues, especially here in Minnesota, our Winters can be long and arduous. Luckily this year we haven't had that much snow, but mix in cold temperatures and anyone can get annoyed by being bundled up all the time. ISo, I figured I'd talk about Spring! It's one of my favorite times of the year and the trends for it are always a lot of fun. But what can we look forward to this year? I've noticed pops of orange, and other bright color schemes like greens and blues. We'll find these in garments and makeup. Floral details, geometric patterns that go on everything (i.e; dresses, pumps, scarves, etc.), studded loafers for women that make any outfit sophisticated. Braided up-dos are by far my favorite trend that I hope to see a lot of this Spring.
