MOSTLY LISA'S HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: THE STOCKING

Friday, November 28, 2014

Today's gift guide is always the best little surprise you can ask for during the holidays. These items are usually under $50, and can easily be stuffed into your stocking! Obviously, all of these gifts are more budget friendly and sometimes a lot more fun. I like these ideas because since they're so small and more affordable, you can buy more than one item to spoil the person you're shopping for. Stockings are pretty great, and I remember always being so excited to open them Christmas morning while I was growing up. My mom would always put different knick-knacks in ours... I have a lot of Christmas-themed socks because of her. I would have included chocolate in this guide, but I figured that would just be a given when it comes to a stocking stuffer. Shop the links below!

MOSTLY LISA'S HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: THE GRINCH

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

For my second installment of the Mostly Lisa Holiday Gift Guide 2014, I received a great suggestion to focus on the 'Dad Who Hates Christmas' from my friend Sarah C.! This pretty much turned into me finding items for someone who you could potentially call 'The Grinch' during this time of year.... I've been that person, a few of my family members have been that person, and I'm sure this year is going to be no different for a lot of people around the world (understandably..) Buying for men is hard anyways, and so this task of finding gifts that would be unique and fun was a challenge for me. I do think I did quite alright though, what do you guys think?! Shop all of these items below, and let me know what you're buying for that man in your life.

P.S. Don't forget to enter my BaubleBar giveaway! There are 3 days left for you to enter, and I wish you all the luck! Thank you so much to everyone who has participated, I can't wait to see who wins! Expect a nice little package from yours truly, just in time for the holidays.

A FESTIVE TABLE

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

We are in the midst of preparing for two major holidays that will be all about celebrating, being with family and eating good food. While I don't often cook as much as I'd like, I really enjoy the act of decorating whatever area that the feast is going to take place. Putting this post together has me itching to finally start saving for my own place, so I can host some type of housewarming party that includes hostess gifts and tasty food. This time of year is such a lovely time to host parties and show all of your talents when it comes to decorating, and above are just some of the things I would decorate my place with...

MONDAY LINK-UP

(PHOTO VIA: this is glamorous)

Happy Monday, friends! Hope you all had a beautiful weekend. I spent Saturday perusing a local boutique called Primrose Park that just opened up a month ago! It's a gorgeous shop filled with inspiration from various places the owner has traveled to. If you live in the Twin Cities, I highly recommend you check it out! I purchased some lovely items to make my card giving and calendar planning a little more unique. It's yet another week that I'm hoping will be filled with new dreams and aspirations to get to. Here are a few other things to keep your week interesting and lively! Cheers!
  • I'm a huge PC gamer, and an avid fan of continuing series that have regular characters and story lines. I've mentioned this series from Big Fish Games before on Mostly Lisa, and so I obviously had to touch on the brand new chapter in the Dark Parables series!!! It's called 'The Little Mermaid & The Purple Tide.' Any hint as to what fairytale it's about? (Hint, hint; it's about Ariel and her sisters) I've now played the entire game and it's beautiful and intriguing, I never find myself bored with this series and that's a good thing. If you've never played a PC game before, go try it at least once. You won't be sorry, and then we can at least talk about it with each other.
  • Can't stop, won't stop with this song. I am not ashamed to admit that this song is catchy and insanely fun to sing along with. I'm enjoying this new version of Taylor, and she's obviously grown in her writing and being able to not take herself too seriously. This video is gorgeous too, I heard she changes about 15 times in the video. I wouldn't mind wearing the likes of Elie Saab and Oscar de la Renta for a day. P.S. Guess who gets to see her with her sister when she comes to Minneapolis?! :)
  • Lane Bryant is having a BOGO 50% off sale right now. I might need this, and this for the holiday season.
  • A fellow local blogger and event maker, Sarah Edwards, has a brand new website with a lovely layout and graphics. Go check it out, and also support her with I AM MPLS which is a fashion and variety show that she puts together every year!
  • I've been in the need to start a new ornament tradition... I used to collect all of the Barbie Holiday ornaments since I was a little girl, but now that they're discontinued I'm pretty bummed about it. There is a plus though, these Disney Hat ornaments are the absolute cutest! I do want to start with Aurora, who would you want to begin with?
  • Did anyone else see the new Holiday campaign for Kate Spade with Anna Kendrick? It's just so good..
  • COMING SOON: MOSTLY LISA'S (2ND ANNUAL) HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE... Enjoy a preview, and get ready for my first guide this Wednesday!

Have any of you seen these beautiful shots from Anthropologie's November lookbook?! It is quite a lovely sight, and doesn't fail to leave you feeling inspired and want to go traveling... I'm such a sucker for a romantic setting, especially one like the Scottish Isles, that takes you away to a happier place filled with beautiful fashion and music. What better way to immerse yourself into this lookbook than to actually see it in motion? Go check out the video Anthropologie posted that will make the experience 100x better! The photo above is exactly what I feel after watching it. Also, click through each image to shop the outfit you see in it! So many lovely options, which one would you choose?!

THURSDAY INSPIRATION: THE GOLD TREATMENT

Thursday, November 6, 2014

"Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”
Lauren DeStefano, Wither

We have just another month to embrace the warmth of Autumn before everything turns into a frosty wonderland. This time of year is probably my favorite because everything is about being comfortable in layers, being able to enjoy the daytime with bright sunshine and to just savor the idea of the Earth being golden again. The actual gold trend in fashion is one of my all time favorites also, so it's nice to have the collaboration between natural and material come together. This year for the golden trend, I'm inspired by the early sunrise in the countryside, that moment where the warm glow slowly appears from the horizon and we're greeted with a clear blue sky at the end. I've noticed a lot of nights lately too, the sunsets have been magnificent with their abundance of different colors. I captured quite a few that just took my breath away. Below are some items to help you daydream of seeing your own perfect sunrise/sunset. Enjoy!

A NOVEMBER WISHLIST

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Happy November! Hard to believe that we're now getting so close to Thanksgiving and to Christmas, already! I'm not particularly ready for the holidays yet, but it's always nice to get ideas flowing and prepare for the mad rush of shopping for loved ones (and yourself.) So I've decided to put together some things I've wishing for in November, that will also translate into my Christmas list. It's hard to put my finger on one thing that I'm really coveting right now, but I definitely want the fox sweater from Joules! How cute is it?! What do you guys like from my list? Let me know in the comments!

Mostly Lisa
